Why Play Therapy?

It is the interpersonal relationship shared between the child and the parent.  Play Therapy allows open and free communication that comes naturally for the child.  As adults we have our practiced and understood verbal language that we rely upon day-to-day.  Unfortunately, many of us, even as loving parents and adults, expect our children to mimic that capability, even though children are not ready.  Play Therapy, and Theraplay, allow the child a safe environment to practice their primary way of expression in an outlet that is natural and not intimidating.

The first step into entering this world of your children is to engage in this natural and critical activity of their childhood.  An activity that is neither taught nor forced, yet an activity that we can all learn from and do so in an enjoyable setting.

However, not only are children able to benefit from this approach but also adolescents and those persons at all points on the lifespan.  Play Therapy, and its close relative Theraplay, offer the same and other avenues for education, trauma relief, and communication for those in need.  These often include interesting and exciting ways to express feelings and emotion though creativity, art, freedom of expression, and a multitude of grounding techniques that we have available to us in our day-to-day lives.

So come and join us, Thompson Play Therapy, in the first steps toward understanding how to serve children, adolescents and adults to help them develop and provide care, in a healthy, natural, and expressively fun way.
